I’ve got a stretched VLAN design using OTV and HSRP isolation/localisation I’m doing at work and was thinking how you would simulate FHRP isolation or something like it using a Vyatta VM. Unlike VMware’s NSX virtual router, the Vyatta router is not distributed. It can only be on one host at any point in time – can’t it? As I’m incredibly smart [and humble], I began thinking that FT (Fault Tolerance) would do the trick since the Vyatta can happily chug along with a single vCPU. Like most things I’ve thought of, someone else has gotten there before me so I decided to google some phrases. In this case it was Matt Oswalt of keepingitclassless.net here:

Thanks Matt
